Fall 2011 Couture Coverage

I was so excited to see Vogue’s Fall 2011 coverage pop up in my twitter feed!  I’ve always enjoyed pouring myself a cup of tea, or a glass of wine, and watching the runway shows from the comfort of my own home.  This year’s collections did not disappoint!

My favorite designer has to be Giambattista Valli (and not just because of that name!)  His collection was dramatic, without being over the top, edgy-yet-girly, and a bold mix of black, white, red and— animal prints.

The designer explained his use of flowing chiffon cinched tightly around the model, stating that “I wanted them to suggest the arms of the man around the waist of the girl…sauvage, wild, strong, against the fragility of the clothes.” (source)

Swoon!

Meals on Wheels

All that delicious BBQ got me thinking….As I prepare to pick up and move to DC, one of the things that I’m most excited about is all the fab foodie fun waiting for me!!  Even though I grew up in the midwest, I’ve always been an adventurous eater.  I’ve had the opportunity to travel, a lot, and I’ve found that the most delicious food is often found on a street corner.  Street vendors specializing in one or two items, cooking up (and dishing out) their wares day in and day out, rain or shine, become like street corner top chefs.  These chefs have served me awesomely good hot dogs, soft pretzels, crepes, pupusas, guinea pig, coconut juice (straight from the nut), fresh smoothies, and oh so much more!!

Luckily for me, one of the most popular  foodie trends sweeping the US is the food truck…and DC has embraced the food truck with open stomaches.

These food trucks ain’t yo mama’s old run-down ice cream truck winding its way through the neighborhood.  Oh no.  These food trucks offer delectable desserts, gourmet meals, and outrageously creative concoctions all from a mobile truck that travels the city.

lobster rolls at lunch? umyesplease.

The Washingtonian offers a cool interactive map to help District resident keep track of these mobile foodie fantasies.  I cannot wait to try these trucks out!

Your roots are showing…and I like it!

So, I’ve been thinking about taking the plunge and getting ombre hair.  For those of you who don’t know, ombre hair is characterized by dark roots that slowly integrate into lighter colored ends.

Ashley Simpson's trending!

A sun-kissed ombre coloring option

If SJP does it, it's gotta be good!

Low maintenance hair color that trending?  Melikey.  As you can tell, you can be really extreme with the color change (like Ashley Simpson’s hair) or more subtle (like SJP’s).   I’m seriously considering this stylish tress upgrade.

If I do take the plunge, I’ll let you lovlies know! ❤

DC Chic, C’est bon. C’est Bon.

Why DC Chic?  Well, I’m a twentysomething young professional moving from the midwest to DC, in order to work for the Feds!  After I learned about my huge life change, I immediately did what any person of my generation would do, and took to the internet to see all things chic, fun, and fabulous that DC had to offer!  Unfortunately, information about DC’s fabulous offerings was seriously lacking.  I’m talking no info on the hip neighborhoods, no info on affordable housing, no tips on young professional connections, nothing.

Yikes!

So, I decided to create a blog to share all things chic I uncover about DC!  I’ll focus on fashion, fun, healthy living (on a budget), and all things chic in DC!  Also, don’t be surprised if my obsession for reality TV and pop culture finds its way into a post or two.  Move over Countess, there’s another self-important lady in town!!

Hope you enjoy!!
